stolen moments

We're still waiting for summer to arrive. In the mean time we make do with the odd ray of sunshine and stolen moments in between the rainshowers.

a new bench for the boys

On Sunday, 1 July, we went to Rotterdam Central Station to make oursleves something out of their leftover building materials. This is a brilliant initiative organised by a group called Deelhout at various building sites around Holland. They were very organised and everything we needed for a great DIY morning was available. Right down to the coffee and muffins! After looking at some of their example ideas we decided to build a bench, for our balcony. We were very lucky to have lots of help from Job, the builder.
Firstly, we had to find some wood.
Then saw all the planks to the right length. Very noisy!
Travis got into the swing of things with his own hammer,
and then took a biscuit break on the chairs made by Deelhout.
The lovely building in the background, showing the reflection of the clouds, is our office! We've been watching the progress at Central Station from the beginnging, from above.

Dylan sorted out which screws were needed.
Then everyone got to work.
These photos were taken by Deelhout. The actual photos, and the rest of their great photos can be found here! (Photos of us can be found on page 2, 3 and 6.)
They loved Travis!

Weighing our end product! Our bench weighed 11kg. In total 800kg of waste material was given a new life!
The boys, enjoying a cup of chocomel, outside, on their new bench!

colouring in

More photos of Travis being creative. I mentioned before that Travis likes colouring, here he is doing a pretty good job with the flower.
Everything is, of course, more fun if Dylan joins in.
Here is the end result. Dylan wasn't too impressed with the 'ugly' all blue bear. The funny thing was that Travis wasn't too impressed with Dylan's either. He told Dylan that the brown arms were ugly and that he had forgotten to do the face!

do-it-yourself paper plane

Travis really enjoys drawing, colouring and painting and couldn't wait to get stuck in and paint his own plane.

It took lots of concentration,

and a lot of paint, not all of which ended up on the plane itself!

When it was dry we put it together and off he went
 weeeeeeeeeee
Boom! (Yes, most games still end with a crash and a bang!)
