On Saturday morning we finally got to watch Dylan doing some Judo. He has been going to Judo for nearly a year and on Saturday morning they had the annual club competition. dylan's first competition. They divided the children up, by age and weight, into small groups. At the end, everyone won a prize.
Here they are waiting for the last of the competitors to arrive
The aim is to get your opponent on to the floor. If you get them down on to their bums its called a Yuko, on to their sides it's a Wazari and on to their backs, an Ippon. If you score 5 Yuko's and your opponent scores 1 Wazari then he has won because that is the higher scoring move. An Ippon ends the match and means you have won.
Here is Dylan getting ready for one of his rounds.

wazari
Dylan won 2 and lost 2. They counted up all the points and because he had managed to score a lot he ended up 1st! Here he is getting his trophy!
The happy champion!
We were very impressed with how much he has learned and how well he can Judo. He is especially enjoying it now that a couple of his school friends have joined him and i think he will continue for a while longer... at least until he gets to start football!
